MARA MARTÍN, A WINE BORN IN THE HEART OF MONTERREI

Monterrei is a place located in the province of Ourense, in the southwest of Galicia, bordering the north of Portugal.

The territory of the Denominación de Orixe (D.O.) Monterrei belongs to the watershed of the river Duero, where the river Támega flows, crossing the region of the D.O. from north to south.

THROUGH ITS VEINS RUNS THE ESSENCE OF THE INTERIOR OF GALICIA

The historical viticulture and native grape varieties of the D.O. Monterrei result in very elegant wines, fruity and with a body that combines tradition and innovation, as well as a deep respect to our land.

Monterrei is a region of great cultural richness, a landscape bathed in the colours of wine and enriched by its history and gastronomy. Centenary trails, pilgrimage routes, popular architecture, endless forests, and mountains…

Climate

Monterrei’s climate has a Continental tendency. This translates into dry summers with little rainfall, and high temperature differences between day and night.

These singular climatic characteristics make it the ideal location for the Godello grape to reach its maximum expression.

SOILS, VALLEY AND SLOPES

The Támega river divides this region in two areas: valley and slopes. The vineyards are located at 400-700m above sea level.

This difference results in a wide variety of soils and orientations which, combined with the microclimates of the different altitudes of the vineyards, produce wines with highly differentiated characteristics and great aromatic complexity.
